Farm Bureau scholarships available

GLASGOW — Barren County Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship applications for 2010 are now available at the local office at 106 Reynolds Road. Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to two males and two females — one male and female graduating from high school in 2010, and one male and female now attending college, all must be going into agriculture or Ag-related field, Family and Consumer Science, and or related fields, to be eligible for the scholarships.

Applicant or applicant’s family must be a member of the Barren County Farm Bureau Federation for a least a year prior to applying for scholarships.

Applicants must submit a head shot picture along with their application and supporting materials.

Applications may be picked up at the Farm Bureau Office at 106 Reynolds Road during regular business hours. Applications and their supporting materials should be returned to the same office by April 1.

Kentucky Farm Bureau Scholarships

Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation has three scholarships available and due by April 30, 2010.

 1. Farm Bureau Young Farmer Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship to college or vocational/technical school student.

2. Paul D. Everman for Lifetime Learning Scholarship is a $3,000 scholarship to a non - traditional student, pursuing a four - year course of study, 

3. Louis F. Ison Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship to full - time graduate student pursuing a degree at University of Kentucky College of Ag.

Applications are available at local Farm Bureau Office or at Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation web site.

Tetanus Shots for Farmers

 The Women's Committee of Farm Bureau will be sponsoring, along  with Dr. Susan Jones of WKU, “free” Tetanus shots for farmers on Monday at 5 p.m. at Trojan Academy. For information, contact Cynthia Rowland at 651-9190

Kentucky Farm Bureau State Women’s Leadership Conference

 The 2010 Kentucky Farm Bureau State Women’s Leadership Conference, March 26-27, will be at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Lexington. A variety of timely workshops and presentation will be on the agenda. Highlights will be lunch and tour at the beautifully-themed Kentucky Horse Park and an inspiring, heart-warming keynote presentation from Patrick Henry Hughes.

There will be a live  auction during Friday evening’s dinner benefiting the Kentucky Farm Bureau Women's Mini-Grant and Scholarship programs. These programs are funded entirely through monies raised during this live auction. A silent auction will also be available for bidders. County Farm Bureau’s furnish the items for these auctions. (Barren County had a winner of the scholarship a few years ago and the women's committee has also received a mini-grant).

Kentucky Farm Bureau Regional Teacher Workshops

Kentucky Farm Bureau has announced that eight regional teacher workshops will be offered throughout the state this summer. The workshops will showcase a variety of state and national agricultural curriculum designed to specifically address Kentucky's core competences. These thematic lessons and materials will help you in teaching mathematics, social studies, English and science through real - life application.

  A total of six hours of professional development credit may be earned at these workshops. Information received will relate to classroom core curriculum during morning activities, with afternoon visits to local agricultural operations.

  The workshop registration fee has been waived for all Kentucky educators, compliments of Kentucky Farm Bureau. Availability may be limited so early registration is encouraged.

  Workshop for this region will be June 21 at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center.
