9:17 MORNING UPDATE CORRECTION: Metcalfe teen dies in Adair County crash

COLUMBIA — An Adair County wreck has claimed the life of a Metcalfe County teen.

Caleb A. Capps, 18, of Edmonton, was pronounced dead at the scene by Adair County Coroner David Taylor, stated a Kentucky State Police report.

The wreck occurred at 10:08 p.m. Thursday approximately 9 miles north of Columbia on Ky. 551. Capps was traveling north in a 2004 Chevy truck when the truck left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned several times. Capps, who was not wearing a seatbelt,was ejected, the report said.

A passenger in the truck, Jessica Mikel, 18, of Louisville, was flown from Westlake Regional Hospital to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is listed in stable condition, the report said.

A second passenger, Jessica Burba, 17, of Louisville, was flown from the scene to the University of Louisville hospital and is listed in serious condition, the report said.

Another passenger, Antonio Simmons, 18, of Radcliff, was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the wreck. Mikel and Burba were not wearing seat belts. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the cause of the wreck, the report said.

Trooper Bryan Shepard with the Kentucky State Police's Columbia Post investigated the wreck.
