Former inmate settles suit against former deputy jailer, former jailer

GLASGOW — A former Barren County Corrections Center inmate has settled her lawsuit against former Deputy Jailer Ricardo Huffman, former Jailer Leland Cox and Barren County. The case was dismissed by Special Judge Thomas Castlen and the settlement was agreed upon Feb. 12.

Set to have been tried by a jury in February, Jones filed suit against Huffman alleging he had non-consensual sex with her while she was an inmate of the jail, according to Jones’ lawyer, Brian Driver.

Cox and Barren County were sued for failing to supervise Huffman and for not safe-guarding Jones, according to a release by Driver.

Castlen overruled attempts by Cox and the county to have the cases dismissed by summary judgment in December 2009 and Huffman had a default judgment entered against Huffman in August of 2009, when he failed to answer the lawsuit or obtain legal counsel to represent him, Driver said.

A more detailed story will appear in Sunday’s edition of the Daily Times.
