8:05 MORNING UPDATE: KSP identify two people found dead

HORSE CAVE — Kentucky State Police have identified the two people who were found dead Monday evening.

The state police were first contacted regarding a shooting at 235 Water St. in Horse Cave at 6:08 p.m. Monday. When personnel arrived on the scene, troopers discovered the body of Jamie Tapscott, 28, of Horse Cave, with an apparent gun shot wound.

Twenty minutes later, Barren County dispatch was contacted regarding a shooting at 544 Bale Ave. in Cave City. Barren County Sheriff's Office deputies first secured the scene until state police arrived. Troopers discovered the body of Jason Horton, 32, of Cave City, with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Horton was the suspect in the alleged murder of Tapscott. Both bodies were taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by KSP Det. Matt Cardwell. He was assisted at both scenes by additional KSP personnel, Barren and Hart County coroner's offices, and Cave City and Horse Cave fire departments.
