TOMPKINSVILLE —
A Monroe County man charged with the murder of a Tompkinsville man pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning in Monroe District Court.
Charles Hammer, 81, of Tompkinsville, is accused in the shooting death of Herbert “Sprocket” Proffitt, 82, also of Tompkinsville. Proffitt was a former Monroe County sheriff, who had also served as chief of the Tompkinsville Police Department.
