GLASGOW — Sonic Drive-In, at 200 N. Loop, Roger Wells Blvd., has reopened after being closed for 28 days for rebuilding. The location opened again on Aug. 4, at 4 p.m.
The new Sonic has 37 drive-in stalls, two walk-up ordering stations and a drive-through.
Leon Prater, manager for the location for the last seven years, said that they added 10 more drive-in stalls, 10 more tables and made the patio larger.
Prater said that business prompted the turnaround of the building.
“It was so we could better take care of the customers. Another reason was because it was getting too small. It was too crowded.”
The switch around of the building allowed for more space for drive-in stalls.
Prater said that business took no time to start again.
“Business is good, the customers seem happy with it,” he said. “Business picked up pretty quick.”
Prater said that he’s excited to be re-opening the location.
“We are looking forward to serving the community and delivering the great service Sonic Drive-Ins are known for across the country.”
Candice Goodman, a Glasgow resident, said that she’s glad the eatery is open again.
“I like it. There’s more places now, you can actually get a spot to park in,” she said. “It’ll be really nice on the patio once it’s not so hot out.”
Sonic, America’s Drive-In started in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla., as a hamburger and root beer stand called Top Hat Drive-In. In 1959, the name was changed to Sonic. The first drive-in with the name change is still in operation in Stillwater, Okla.
Sonic is the nation’s largest chain of drive-in restaurants with more than 3,000 drive-ins.
The Glasgow location has been open for 15 years.
