Couple open new restaurant

PARK CITY — Billy and Felicia Barbour are ready to feed Park City’s residents.

The couple is opening a family restaurant in the old Corner Cafe building at 24130 Louisville Road and will offer “real country cooking.”

“We mash the potatoes, peel the sweet potatoes, it’s all home made,” said co-owner Felicia Barbour. “Our cooks are some of the best around here. We picked them out a long time ago. If anyone knows anything about feeding a family, it’s us. We have eight kids between us.”

Barbour said the project was a result of experiencing her husband’s, Billy, “healing food.”

“When I met him three years ago, I was in a wheel-chair,” she said. “They had given me up because I couldn’t eat. He would come in and feed me homemade biscuits and gravy and before I knew it, I was walking again, my heart is kicking and stronger. I think it’s healing food, real soul food.”

Billy, who is a truck driver, will cook at the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Every Saturday he cooks out and gives food away for people in the community,” Barbour said.

The building, which used to house the Corner Cafe, has undergone some major renovations, including being brought up to code and getting a brand new dance floor.

“The restaurant is pretty big, but it’s still small-scale,” Barbour said. “The front section will be the restaurant part, the middle section is the general store. If people want to sell their stuff, quilts, baskets, they can sell it there. The back part is the banquet hall. People can reserve that area for parties. It’s already booked up every Friday through the new year.”

Barbour said the couple hopes to not only feed the stomachs of the residents, but their souls as well.

“We do a lot in the community when it comes to religion,” she said. “Our Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our slowest nights so what we’ll do is pick a church out and 5 percent of our sales will go to that church’s building fund. The church can get its members in here to eat and raise money. God will profit, the church will profit and we’ll profit.”

The will also give gift certificates for honor students and discounts for meals catered for churches.

“We want to keep God in this community,” she said. “This community is really God-fearing. We also want to reach out to Glasgow, Horse Cave, Cave City, all the surrounding area.”

The restaurant delivers as late as 9 p.m. and deliveries are free for orders $25 or more.

Barbour added: “I do want to say thank you to Square Deal because with out them, we would have never gotten all this done on time.”

The restaurant will host a grand opening Saturday at 2 p.m.
