Farmers RECC’s Annual Meeting Celebration
On a hot and steamy night, a crowd of nearly 900 member-owners and invited guests attended the 2010 Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation’s annual meeting at the Cave City Convention Center on July 8.
Members were given the opportunity to learn about ways they can lower energy bills while helping to save the environment with Farmers RECC’s SimpleSaver direct load control program.
Members could also participate in a free health fair sponsored by T.J. Samson Community Hospital and Walmart Vision Center provided free eye examinations. A host of other community and energy saving activities were provided at no charge by Farmers RECC.
Inside the main hall, True Harmony, from Metcalfe County, kicked off the meeting with a rendition of Southern Gospel music, followed by the Farmers RECC business meeting conducted by the chairman of the Board of Directors Freddie Button.
During the business meeting, two members were elected to the board of directors. Elected to serve three-year terms were incumbent directors Paul Hawkins, District II — Hart, Grayson and Larue counties, and Neil Pendygraft, District I — Barren and Edmonson counties.
After the regular business meeting the “real business” of the cooperative began with the 61st annual Miss Farmers RECC Scholarship Pageant. Brittney Corbin, daughter of Kenneth and Sandy Corbin, of Barren County, was crowned Miss Farmers RECC of 2010. First runner-up was Veronica Smith, daughter of Scott and Melissa Smith, of Metcalfe County. Second runner-up was Bethann Lockett, daughter of Jeff and Teresa Lockett, of Hart County.
Farmers RECC is a member-owned cooperative that supplies electricity to 24,500 customers in eight counties of South Central Kentucky.
