LOUISVILLE — Do you or someone you know have what it takes to become Kentucky’s Small Business Person of the Year for 2010? If so, the U.S. Small Business Administration wants to hear from you.
Each year since 1963, the president has designated one week as National Small Business Week in recognition of the small business community’s contributions to the American economy. Business owners from every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam, who have been named as their state’s Small Business Person of the Year, travel to Washington for three days of small business-related activities. One of the winners will be chosen as the national Small Business Person of the Year.
Small Business Champion awards are also presented to persons who have used their professional skills or personal talents to further public understanding and awareness of small business. Champion awards include Small Business Exporter, Young Entrepreneur, Family-Owned Business, Financial Services, Home-Based Business, Minority, Veteran and Women. A special award, Entrepreneurial Success, is presented to a large company that began as a small business.

Johnson retires from RR Donnelley
Jerry Johnson retired from RR Donnelley on Oct. 1 after more than 34 years of service. He began his Donnelley career as a material handler in November 1974 and worked both in the finishing department and in the pressroom. He was later promoted to press assistant 3 and then to press operator 1 in the pressroom, the position he held at retirement.
Johnson and his wife Rebecca reside in Glasgow. They have six children: Jeremy Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Jenna Johnson, Mike Bailey, Stacey Palmore and Marty Bailey. They also have six grandchildren.
Jerry’s retirement plans include motorcycle riding, playing golf, jogging, woodworking and traveling.
