GLASGOW — Marsha Houchens, LPN, received the 2009 KAHCF nursing scholarship at the Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF) annual awards banquet on Nov. 12.
KAHCF, the trade association that represents proprietary and nonpropiertary long term care facilities throughout the commonwealth, presented more than 40 awards at the banquet at the Galt House in Louisville. This award recognizes strong commitment to both the nursing home profession and providing quality care at Barren County Health Care Center.
Administrator Steve Brown said, “We are proud to have Marsha Houchens as part of our staff at Barren County Health Care Center. This honor is a testament to her dedication to providing outstanding care to our residents.”
“Marsha Houchens is just one of the many outstanding long term care professionals in Kentucky that provides quality care for our families and neighbors. We all congratulate Marsha for her commitment to quality and for winning this award,” Greg Wells, KAHCF board chair, said.
Patrons win at Jeff’s Country Florist
Jeff's Country Florist & Gifts hosted the annual Christmas Open House on Nov. 6-7. Winners of the four $25 gift certificates were Georgia McClary, of Scottsville, Dawn McCoy, of Glasgow, Laura Greer, of Bowling Green, and Wilma Garrett of Austin.

Akers recognized with integrity award
Frankfort – The Associated General Contractors of Kentucky, the state’s largest commercial construction association is pleased to announce that Brandon Akers of AGC of Kentucky member Alliance Corporation, in Glasgow, Kentucky is the recipient of our 2009 Service Integrity & Responsibility Award.
“Brandon serves on both the AGC of Kentucky Safety Committee and was appointed to serve as our representation on the Kentucky High Performance Building Advisory Committee. The highest honor the Associated General Contractors of Kentucky can bestow upon an individual is the S.I.R. award, which takes its name from the AGC credo of Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility. The award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to both AGC of Kentucky and to the construction industry,” said AGC of Kentucky Executive Vice President Richard C. Vincent. “On behalf of the entire membership of AGC of Kentucky we are pleased to present Brandon Akers with the 2009 AGC of Kentucky S.I.R Award.”
