ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS: KY Crafted set for Saturday

LOUISIVLLE — Kentucky Crafted: The Market is set for Saturday and Sunday in Louisville at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center’s South Wing B featuring numerous artists and craftsmen, plus authors, musicians and Kentucky Proud products.

BOWLING GREEN — The Warren County public library will present its Fact, Fiction and Forensics speaker series. This author series features international best selling authors.

The series starts in May and ends in August.

The first speaker, Jeffery Deaver, will be at the Main Library on  May 13 at 6 p.m

The event is free, but tickets are required.  Free tickets can be picked up at the Main Library or the Bob Kirby Branch beginning March 8. Any questions, email Jayne Pelaski at jaynep@warrenpl.org.

FSP to present ‘From the Mississipi Delta’

BOWLING GREEN — Fountain Square Players present “From the Mississippi Delta,” written by Endesha Ida Mae Holland and directed by Jeff Moore, at The Phoenix Theater at 545 Morris Alley. 

Dates and Times: March 11-13, beginning at 8 p.m., and March 14, beginning at 3 p.m.

Tickets are  $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, $8 for children (under 12).

2010 season announced

BOWLING GREEN —  Orchestra Kentucky, under the direction of Maestro Jeffrey Reed, announces an exciting 2010-11 concert season.

Geanology workshop offered

FRANKFORT — The Kentucky Historical Society  and the Kentucky Genealogical Society  will host a free family-history workshop, “Publishing Print and Electronic Family Histories,” from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 13 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.

Following the close of each Family-History Workshop at 1:45 p.m., the Kentucky Technology in Genealogy Users Group offers a free program to help support family-history researchers’ use and understanding of technology as it applies to genealogy.

This month’s presentation is “Finding Family Histories Online--What Has Been Printed, Where to Find Them and Whether the Books Are In or Out of Copyright.”

The free Family-History Workshop series takes place each month at the Center for Kentucky History.

If requested at the time of registration, an optional light lunch is available at a cost of $6, payable at the door.

Celtic music planned

BEREA – On March 13, Robert Tincher will bring in the St. Patrick’s Day spirit by performing music and singing traditional Celtic songs with guitar, along with such Irish instruments as the Bodhran and Cittern from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea.

Tincher is an interpreter of folk songs from Scotland and Ireland, two nations important to Kentucky’s musical heritage.

The Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea is located at 975 Walnut Meadow Road, just off Interstate 75 at exit 77 (Berea).

Singing contest set

LEXINGTON —  Alltech is partnering with the University of Kentucky’s Opera Theatre department for the fifth time to present the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Competition.

This competition awards over $300,000 in scholarships and stipends to undergraduate and graduate winners at UK.

The competition will take place at the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall on March 14 from 2 to 5 p.m.

The program will consist of the top finalists performing one song or aria of their choice and past winners showcasing their winning piece.

This competition is free and open to the public.

Community Ed art show announced

The seventh annual Community Education Art Show is set for March 21 at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center.

Students of Patty Hughes’ and John Wing’s acrylic painting classes are preparing for the show. The show will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event will showcase the talent of local artists with a variety of paintings on display.

Adults who participated in Hughes’ or Wing’s classes during the last year are invited to display their artwork. Call Marcus Kingrey at (270) 670-6908 for details.

Entry forms to be taken  

BOWLING GREEN —  The Medical Center has announced its 20th annual Women-in-the-Arts Exhibit, which is set for April 23-25. 

Entries are now being accepted for the exhibit, which is open to any female artist over 18 years old residing in Kentucky. 

Available categories are: painting, sculpture, ceramics, works on paper, fiber works, and photography.     

Entry forms may be obtained by calling (270) 745-1010 or (800) 624-2318 or stopping by The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall or the Capitol Arts Center.

Artists will have the option of selling their work. 

Entry fee is $20. Entry forms should be returned by March 26.
