Youth artwork to be displayed at Cultural Center

GLASGOW — The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will host the first Just for Kids art display on Sunday, showcasing artwork of  youth who take art classes through Barren County Community Education.

“Our adult community education show has been a success and we're just excited to be able to share the talent of the younger group from this area and surrounding areas,” said Gayle Berry, executive director of the museum. “We're excited about it being our first show for them.”

The display is for one day only at the museum.

Youth taking part in the display are students of Patty Hughes, a Glasgow artist who teaches the Just for Kids art classes through community education.

Hughes teaches three levels of art classes for youth ranging in age from 6 through their early teen years. The youth learn the basics in the first class and if they continue to the third class they will learn painting techniques and various styles of painting, she said.

Hughes is very proud of her students and their work.

“I have some students who paint better than I do,” she said.
