It’s a weekend for the birds on Jan. 29-30 at Barren River State Resort Park. The Cincinnati Zoo is bringing birds to the park for the public to enjoy. The zoo’s visit is sponsored by the Arts Guild of the Barrens, Inc. and includes two educational sessions and a workshop for artists.
On Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m., an educational session about the birds will be conducted in the Tartan Room. The public is invited to attend to view the birds and learn about each one. This event is free for all ages. Call the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce at (270) 651-3161 to sign up. Please indicate which session you want to attend.
On Saturday from noon until 2 p.m., an artist workshop will be in the Tartan Room. The birds (and their keeper) will model for the participating artists. There is a $20 registration fee for this workshop and pre-registration is required due to space limitations. Call the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce for information. Checks are to be made to the Arts Guild of the Barrens. Registration forms are available at the chamber and at the park. Artists must bring their own supplies. Flash photography is not allowed during the educational sessions or the artist workshop.
This zoo’s visit to the park is the same weekend as the state park’s annual Sandhill Crane Watch.
In the event of bad weather, contact the chamber to confirm if the event will occur. If cancelled, the make-up date will be Feb. 19-20.
