Barn Lot presents ‘Aladdin Jr.’

Dinner and Dueling Pianos set for Friday
BOWLING GREEN — Dinner and Dueling Pianos is set for July 16 at Lost River Cave, with dinner beginning promptly at 6 p.m featuring salad, Champagne Chicken, grilled vegetables, roasted red potatoes with onions, dessert and iced tea. Date set for Poker Run
TOMPKINSVILLE — A Poker Run through historic Monroe County and northern Tennessee is planned for July 17 sponsored by the Monroe County Historical and Genealogical Society as a fundraiser.
Motorcyles, classic cars and all other vehicles are welcome. The 109-mile course will take you through historic Tompkinsville, Fountain Run and Gamaliel in Kentucky and Celina and Hermitage Springs, Tenn., stopping at seven checkpoints along the route to pick up a single playing card at each location for each hand being played.
The run begins and ends at Old Mulkey Meeting-house State Historic Site near Tompkinsville. Registration starts at 11 a.m. at ($20 per vehicle/hand, $5 each non-playing passenger). Prizes will be 50 percent payback (25 percent to winning hand, 20 percent to second and $5 to worst hand). Registration fee includes a barbecue plate and beverage for each person.
The wrap-up party starts at 5 p.m. at Old Mulkey and will include barbecue , entertainment and activities.

Bass to speak
BOWLING GREEN — Dr. Bill Bass, a forensic anthropologist, who founded the University of Tennessee's Anthropology Research Facility — the Body Farm — a quarter-century ago will speak at the Warren County Public Library’s main library on July 22 at 6 p.m.
He co-writes a series of books about the Body Farm with Jon Jefferson a veteran journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker. Their most recent title is “The Bone Thief.”
This event is free, but tickets are necessary for admittance. Tickets are available at the main library or the Bob Kirby branch.

Date set for ‘High School Musical 2 On Stage’
The Glasgow Summer Theatre will present “High School Musical 2 On Stage” July 30 at 7 p.m., July 31 at 7 p.m. and on Aug. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre. Tickets are $10 each. Big Brothers Big Sisters event planned
BOWLING GREEN — The ninth annual Spirits in the Cave is set for July 29 at 6 p.m. at Lost River Cave.
The fundraising event benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Kentucky and will feature food, beverage and entertainment featuring music by Exit 4. Vintage Car Rally to come to Glasgow
The Vintage Car Rally Association of Grove of Oklahoma is bringing the 2010
Hemmings Challenge Vintage Car Rally to Glasgow on July 30.
Seventy-five vintage cars competing against one another for the coveted title of “Best Lunch Stop City” and the $5,000 top prize are the towns of Glasgow, Greenville and Bardstown, Tell City, Ind., and Dickson,Tenn.
The “Best Lunch Stop City” is determined by votes placed by the rally teams. Cities will be scored oncriteria including the city’s theme, crowd participation, venue, food quality and the overall “WOW” factor. Glasgow needs citizens to participate in order to win the prize.
Come to Glasgow around 11:15 a.m. on July 30 to welcome the rally cars.
Beginning around 11:30 a.m., the cars will roll into downtown from U.S. 31E on to South Green Street, down Big Spring Bottom Hill, and then left to travel through the historic tunnel on Water Street to the lunch stop at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center.
Upon their departure, the rally will head to northern Barren County.
The drivers and navigators will take a moment to refresh, enjoy lunch prepared by the Barren County Cattlemen’s Association and soon hit the road again. Racers are competing for $70,000 worth of prizes.
Car and truck show planned
CAVE CITY — The Cave Country Auto Fest is set for July 31 at the Cave City Convention Center. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with judging at noon.
Awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Kentucky Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch.
Participants are invited to a police escorted cruise leaving at 3:45 p.m. from the convention center through Cave City.

Chuck Barris to speak
BOWLING GREEN — Chuck Barris will discuss his latest book, “Della,” on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the main library. “Della” is an affecting memoir of a life cut short.
Della Barris, the only child of television icon Chuck Barris, died of an accidental drug overdose in 1998. She was thirty-six years old, addicted to cocaine and alcohol, and she was HIV-positive. Chuck candidly recounts his life with her in an attempt to understand his failings, to share his doubts, unanswered questions, tremendous heartache, and especially his tender memories of fatherhood.
Chuck Barris is a former television show creator and producer, whose credits include “The Dating Game,” “The Newlywed Game,” “The Gong Show,” and “Treasure Hunt.” He is the author of several books, including “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” (adapted into a major motion picture) and the New York Times best-selling novel “You and Me, Babe.”
Reptile and rock event scheduled
CAVE CITY — The second annual South Central Kentucky Reptile Breeders Show and Sale is set for Sept. 25 at the Cave City Convention Center.
Admisison is $3 per person. Children under the age of 6 will be admitted free. Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m.
