MCNP to host workshops

MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK — The 2009 Mammoth Cave Genealogy and Cemetery Workshops will be Friday night and Saturday morning. Both will be located at the Rotunda Room inside the Mammoth Cave Hotel.

The genealogy workshop begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. J. Mark Lowe, professional genealogist, will present two sessions from 6:30 p.m. to no later than 9 p.m. Session descriptions: “Land Barons or Dirt Farmers: Finding Land Transactions”

Following the land will often identify the ancestor and family. Learn how to trace an individual through property records and how to trace a specific property in Kentucky.

“Remembering the War: Mexican War/Civil War Veterans and Friends”

Discover the records of your Mexican or Civil War ancestors through their fraternal organizations, records, pension efforts and more.

The cemetery workshop begins at 9 a.m., also at the Rotunda Room.

Following an indoor discussion about laws and cemeteries, the group willmove out to the Old Guide's Cemetery for a review of cemetery preservation techniques.

Session leaders will include conservators David M. Lyons and Clinton Bush.
