State Park to host First Friday art event

Wondering what “Art in the Park” and “First Friday” are?

“Art in the Park” refers to the Stonehaven Art Gallery located in the former gift shop at Barren River State Resort Park. Currently on display are paintings by area artists. Every three months the paintings and other types of art will change. The art is available for purchase. Check with the front desk about how to purchase.

“First Friday” takes place on the first Friday of each month. Painters and other types of artists gather at the Stonehaven Galley and then move to a location in the park to do their art. Visitors and guests of the Park are encouraged to watch the artists and talk to them while they work.

The pictures shown are of the “First Friday” event held on Nov. 6. Arrangements were made to allow the group onto a service road at the Barren River Lake State Resort Park to get down to the water's edge. They painted outside for a couple of hours, had a heron and a fisherman pose for awhile and then enjoyed a nice meal at the lodge.

“Art in the Park” is held the first Friday of every month in the Stonehaven Gallery unless weather permits a ‘plein air’ session. Everyone is welcome to participate. These two events are sponsored by the newly formed Arts Guild of the Barrens, Inc. in partnership with Barren River State Resort Park.
