GLASGOW — Brad Lowe attributes his interest in magic to such illusionists as Doug Henning and David Copperfield.
As a child, he watched them on television. It was seeing the magic they performed that inspired him to become a magician.
Lowe, who works for Software Technology, Inc. in Glasgow, performs magic part-time.
“I’ve been doing magic for friends and family for quite some time,” he said.
He began performing magic as a means of relieving stress.
As his interest grew, he went to magic conventions trying to learn everything he possibly could. He also went to see David Copperfield.
“I’ve seen Copperfield somewhere around seven to eight times now and I’ve gotten to meet him twice and be on stage with him a couple of times,” he said.
He has also met Lance Burton and Matt King, who are originally from Kentucky but perform magic in Las Vegas.
Lowe now performs magic shows at children’s birthday parties; something he dearly loves to do.
“I just like the escape from reality,” he said.
He also likes the way magic intrigues people.
“Whenever you see something and you’re trying to figure out how in the world could that be possible, there’s a smile that people have and that’s what I like,” he said.
Lowe never reveals how he is able to do a certain routine, but he will give people tidbits of information to see if they can figure the tricks out on their own.
“If they are interested and they want to learn more then I’ll give them more,” he said.
Lowe likes doing children’s birthday parties and enjoys seeing children’s expressions when he does certain acts.
“Once you capture what interests them, you want to do more of that to keep them in that same spirit,” he said.
Because it is that same type of feeling, he said, that inspired him as a child to one day become a magician.
