Q: I had to laugh the other day because I heard someone say that drugs aren’t as big a problem with young people as they used to be. Well, I’m in my mid-20s and I’ve been in and out of rehab more times than I can count since I was 13. Nothing works. Even God has given up on me. — A.McD.
A: You may have given up on God — but I want to assure you that God has not given up on you! One of the Bible’s greatest truths is that God’s concern for us never ends. The Bible says that God “is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
After all, God made you, and He knows all about you. He knows the struggles you face, and He also knows your failures and your discouragement. And yet He still loves you! You may wonder if that’s possible — but it is! And once you grasp that truth, your life will never be the same.
How do I know God loves you? I know it for one reason: God sent His only Son into the world to give His life for you. Listen: If you had been the only person on earth who needed to be forgiven and saved, Jesus Christ still would have been willing to go to the cross for you. He loves you that much! The Bible says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Don’t let anything keep you from opening your heart to Christ. The worst mistake you could ever make would be to turn your back on His love. Instead, by a simple prayer of faith confess your sins to God and ask Christ to come into your life today. With Christ there is hope, for this day and all eternity.
