Class teaches ABCs

GLASGOW — Those suffering with diabetes or at risk for the disease have a free opportunity this month to learn more about the chronic condition of diabetes and how to manage it.

The Barren River District Health Department’s Diabetes Center of Excellence is offering a three-part “ABCs of Diabetes” class March 5, 12 and 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital Educational Resource Center. The class is a great free resource for anyone who needs help dealing with diabetes, according to Melissa Waldron, a health educator at the DCOE.

“We talk about everything to do with diabetes,” Waldron said.

People who have already been diagnosed with diabetes are especially encouraged to attend, Waldron said, because the class will talk about all aspects of managing diabetes, including symptoms, medicines, nutritional guidelines, tracking the disease and complications that can arise from having diabetes. However, Waldron said family members who help care for someone with diabetes and those who are at risk of getting diabetes are also welcome.

“Really anyone can attend,” Waldron said.
