GLASGOW —
A Glasgow woman donated her services recently to help make sure more than 900 people received medical care.
Janice Crenshaw traveled to Pikeville with hundreds of other volunteers from across the country, including doctors, dentists and nurses, as part of the Remote Area Medical program or RAM.
During the weekend of June 19-20, approximately 990 clients were seen and treated. Eighty dental chairs were set up in the gymnasium at Pike County Cental High School. Free dental, medical and eye care was available to patients who were either under-insured or had no health insurance.
Volunteers arose at 4:30 a.m. each day to be able to treat patients from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Crenshaw said she was exhausted, but was glad she was able to make the trip and help with the program’s efforts.
RAM was founded in 1985 by Stan Brock, a pilot and co-star of the “Wild Kingdom” T.V. series.
