LOUISVILLE — The Kentucky Association of Health Care Facilities (KAHCF), the trade association representing long term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth, had its annual meeting Nov. 10-12 at the Louisville Galt House. More than 1,400 people from across the state attended the conference, including employees of long term care facilities, corporate officers and owners, vendor representatives, and other long term care professionals. The three-day conference included educational sessions, a vendor trade show, and the KAHCF Awards Banquet.
On the evening of Nov. 12, KAHCF hosted its annual Awards Banquet and Dance. During the program, more than 40 awards were presented to long term care employees, volunteers, individuals and organizations that have furthered the goals of the long term care profession in Kentucky.
Steve Brown, administrator of Barren County Health Care Center in Glasgow, received the Midwstern District Administrator of the Year award and Sharon Smith, nurse technician, received the 2009 Statewide Medication Aide/Nurse Aide Award.
“We are proud to have Sharon Smith as part of our staff at Barren County Health Care Center. This honor is a testament to her dedication to providing outstanding care to our residents,” Brown said.
“Our long term care profession salutes Steve for his strong commitment to quality care and dedication to his residents and staff,” said KAHCF Chairman of the Board Greg Wells. “Steve’s dedication to this profession is truly noteworthy and we are proud to honor him with this award.”
Five district Administrator of the Year awards were presented to individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding level of professionalism in the field.
Special recognition went to Robert Flatt, administrator of Britthaven of South Louisville. Flatt was recognized as Statewide Administrator of the Year for his outstanding contribution to the facility and community, including teaching many nursing courses at local colleges.
