Columbia Avenue construction

Local motorists are cautioned to be aware of ongoing road work in the area.

Keirsten Jaggers, with the Department of Highways District 3 office, has advised drivers there will be lane closures and traffic delays on Columbia Avenue and the Louie B. Nunn Parkway in Barren County.

Another phase of road work on Columbia Avenue began this week as crews do more diamond grinding and maintenance repairs on sidewalks, pavement and seals, according to Jaggers. The work is scheduled to be completed on Dec. 1. Motorists are being advised to reduce their speed when entering the construction zone.

More road work will be underway on Louie B. Nunn (Cumberland) Parkway with motorists advised to watch out for construction vehicles crossing the parkway at mile marker 15 just east of Glasgow and Exit 14 (Ky. 90). The crossing is not at an interchange, but is in the middle of ongoing construction for the eastern section of the Glasgow Veterans Outer Loop, according to the release from Jaggers. The vehicle crossings are necessary for work on the south side of the parkway for the new interchange.

Flaggers will be present to allow dump trucks and other heavy equipment vehicles to travel across all eastbound and westbound lanes of the parkway during daylight hours Monday through Friday until further notice. Motorists should reduce speed and expect to be stopped in both direction during these crossovers.

A state highway crew will also be repairing a stretch of median cable barrier on northbound Interstate 65 in Hart County beginning Thursday morning.

The northbound, left lane will be closed near mile marker 55. Delays are possible and motorists are asked to use caution in the work zone.
