ACTIONS: Fiscal Court magistrates approved the minutes of the July 6 and July 9, meetings; approved the purchase order of $5,100 for the county Emergency Management Agency’s siren management, which includes a battery test relay. The money is already in the EM budget; approved purchase order for the recreation department to buy nets to prevent foul balls from entering the concession stand area of Jackie Browning Park. The $7,600 needed will be taken out of the recreation facilities budget, said magistrate Carl Dickerson; approved claims as submitted; approved transfer of funds from the unappropriated general fund to the jail fund; approved the monthly financial statement for June 2010, subject to audit; approved the quarterly financial statement ending June 30, subject to audit; approved the official settlements for June 2010, subject to audit; acknowledged receipt from the Barren County Public Library of the library report ending May 31 and the library budget for fiscal year 2010-11; approved the Memorandum of Agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for roadside inmate work crews; approved appointment of Lori Beth Avery from Days Inn and Carol Smith from Four Seasons to the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission for June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2013 appointments; approved the treasurer’s annual settlement, subject to audit; approved receipt of new personnel hire and pay rate adjustment at the Barren County Corrections Center.
REPORTS: Jailer Matt Mutter reported that the air handler for the jail is hooked to a generator as the Kentucky Department of Corrections advised. The handler cost $2,280. Mutter said staff at the jail have shredded 177 old files since the KDC changed the length of time corrections centers must keep records to five years instead of ten.
Mutter also reported 140 inmates, 90 of which are Barren County inmates and 41 that are state inmates. He said the population has been higher because of multiple indictments served recently.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Judge Executive Davie Greer announced that the Barren County Fair opened July 27 and continues July 28, 29, 30 and 31. The Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce will host an ice cream social on Thursday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the chamber office. Greer also announced that the Vintage Car Rally Association of Grove, Okla., will be bringing the 2010 Hemmings Challenge Vintage Car Rally to Barren County on Friday. They will stop for lunch at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center from 11 to 1 p.m. On Aug. 6, Community Health Care will hole a ribeye sandwich lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to benefit the CHC.

After five years of letters and discussions, the Environmental Protection Agency has informed Kinslow that he must produce a closure report for underground fuel tanks that were removed 13 years ago, or face unnamed consequences.
