GLASGOW — MEETING: Barren County Fiscal Court

ANNOUNCEMENTS: On July 8, WBKO News will be broadcasting the 6 p.m. news on the Glasgow square. On July 9, there will be a sexual harassment seminar at the Cave City Convention Center. The same night will also be Barren County night at the Bowling Green Hot Rods ballpark. On July 10, the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce will have the chamber quarterly breakfast at the Glasgow Country Club at 7 a.m. The Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library is open for business at its new location on South Green Street.
REPORTS: Sheriff Chris Eaton reported that two new deputies have joined the Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force and that the Sheriff’s Office Alzheimer’s program will receive a free seminar from the Alzheimer’s Association of Kentucky and the deputies will be offered a class through the Kentucky Association of Counties on pursuit driving that will help with insurance rates for the department. Barren County Sheriff’s Deputy and acting jailer Matt Mutter reported that computers have been installed, the jail has started to collect back pay in fees and will begin detaining illegal immigrants that are arrested for higher class misdemeanors and felonies. The transportation committee decided to table voting on adopting any new subdivision roads into the county road system until more research is done on requirements. The Building and Property Committee recommended to accept the bid from Kidd Communications for a countywide radio system at a cost of $267,910 plus approximately $9,000 for the road department. Representatives from Ross, Sinclaire and Associates spoke to the court about different jail bonding options and a possibility of refinancing for the Barren County Government Building.
ACTIONS: The court acknowledged receipt of personnel hired at the sheriff’s office, approved the payment of claims as submitted, acknowledged receipt of personnel hired at the County Clerk’s Office, personnel hired as County Parks and Recreation Manager, acknowledged receipt of the 2009-10 budget for the Barren River District Health Department, and approved appointments for Glenn Sheehan and John Walbert to the Glasgow-Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission. The court also acknowledged receipt of the Sheriff’s tax settlements for 2008: franchise tax settlements for April 1, 2008 through April 30, 2009 for the fiscal court, Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library c/o fiscal court, county extension service, Barren County, Caverna Independent and Glasgow Independent school districts, bank shares deposit and sheriff add on fee; sheriff tax settlements for fiscal court, Cave City, Park City, Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library c/o fiscal court, county extension service, Department of Revenue, Austin Tracy, Cave City, East Barren, Fountain Run, Haywood, Hiseville, Park City, South Barren, Summer Shade and Temple Hill Fire Departments, sheriff advertising fee on regular taxes, sheriff fee on regular taxes, sheriff add on for regular taxes and add on for oil.
