5:15 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Woman found at WKU-Glasgow identified

GLASGOW — A 36-year-old wife and mother of three was identified by the Barren County Coroner’s Office as the woman who was found dead in a bathroom at Western Kentucky University’s Glasgow campus.

Trina Marie Lawson, of Mill Street in Glasgow, was a student at WKU and worked at the local Walmart.

At about 1 p.m. Friday, Glasgow police were called when she was found in the first-floor bathroom.

“The cause of death is still pending but we have ruled out trauma,” said Barren County Coroner Mike Swift.

An autopsy was completed Saturday, but a death investigation continues for the WKU police, according to Mandi Johnson, communications officer for WKU.

After Lawson was found on Friday, police blocked off the area and, at about 2:30 p.m., the school was evacuated and classes were cancelled for the day.

Glasgow police were joined by WKU officials, Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service personnel and the Barren County Corner before WKU police arrived.

Swift said an important lesson was to be learned from Lawson’s death, namely, the importance of keeping emergency contact information current.

“Because her contact information was not up-to-date, we had trouble finding her family to notify her next of kin,” Swift said. “I have spoken with WKU and the schools [in the area] but it’s important for people to make sure their emergency contact information is current in case something happens.”

Lawson’s obituary and information about her memorial service can be read on page A3 of Monday’s Glasgow Daily Times.
