LOCAL BRIEFS

GLASGOW — House fire follows Monday storm

The storms Monday night caused at least one house fire in Hiseville, according to fire department officials.

A home on Hiseville Bear Wallow Road was most likely set on fire by a lightning strike, said Hiseville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Danny Sexton.

There was moderate damage to the roof line of the house, but no one was home at the time of the fire. Sexton said the house was not a loss and the fire was quickly contained.

Four injured in crash in county

Four people were injured Monday in a three car crash on Burkesville Road.

James Hayley, 23, of Glasgow, came around a curve on the road too fast and the vehicle went off the roadway, according to Wes Coulter, firefighter secretary for the East Barren Volunteer Fire Department.

When Hayley lost control of his vehicle, the car behind his, driven by Shelby Atkins, 18, of Glasgow, stopped suddenly and the vehicle of Mark Leonhardt, 51, of Bowling Green, rear-ended Atkins’ vehicle. Two drivers were transported by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service for non-life-threatening injuries. Two other people were taken by private means as a precaution, Coulter said, but their names were not known.

Arrest results from crash in city

Another crash occurred on North Race Street and Leech Avenue on Monday afternoon, causing one injury and ending in one arrest.

Glasgow police responded to the crash and, according to the report, determined that Darrel T. Cook, 68, of Cave City, attempted to make a left turn onto Leech Avenue from North Race, when Matthew W. Ayala’s vehicle struck his from behind.

Ayala’s vehicle sustained major front-end damage and Cook’s vehicle sustained minor to moderate rear-end damage.

Ayala admitted to not having insurance on the vehicle he was driving and was arrested and charged with failure of owner to maintain the required insurance, second offense.

Cook was transported by Barren-Metcalfe EMS to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Cook was treated and released from the hospital.
