Fire destroys building at trucking company

By SUSAN TEBBEN

A tractor-trailer wash facility was completely destroyed by fire Saturday night at a trucking company on Glover Road in southeast Barren County.

Officials are not sure of the cause of the fire at D&B; Equipment Shops, 1059 Glover Road, but Tony Richey, chief of the Temple Hill Volunteer Fire Department, said the initial theory is that an electrical malfunction in the Peterbilt that was being housed in the building at the time could have been the cause.

The Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office was to review the scene Monday to investigate the cause.

Temple Hill was one of three fire departments that responded to the fire; East Barren and Summer Shade departments also responded, along with Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service.

It took firefighters approximately three hours to put the fire out, Richey said.

No one was in the building at the time, but one firefighter suffered a slight burn from a cleaning agent used in the facility, he said.

The truck that was in the building, along with pressure washers and other equipment, were all lost in the fire, according to owner Dale Clark.

After the investigation has been completed, Clark plans to rebuild the facility in the same location.
