10:06 MORNING UPDATE: Scottsville man arrested on shoplifting and other charges

GLASGOW —

Steven K. Hammock, 23, of Scottsville, was arrested Monday by Glasgow police in connection with a shoplifting incident.

Hammock was charged with theft by unlawful taking/disposition of property (shoplifting), second-degree possession of a controlled substance (first offense), fourth-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Glasgow police were dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. When Officer Jacob Elmore was en route dispatch advised the subject had fled on foot toward Max Wagner Drive.

Elmore then made contact with Hammock on Max Wagner Drive. Hammock fit the description Elmore had been given, according to a Glasgow Police Department press release.

During a pat down, police found Hammock in possession of six white oval-shaped pills labeled Watson 385.

Walmart loss prevention officers followed Hammock and witnessed him placing stolen merchandise in brush behind the Dollar Tree store, the press release stated.

Captain Eddie Lindsey then located stolen merchandise. While speaking with Walmart's loss prevention officers, they advised, which was confirmed on video surveillance, that Hammock pushed an employee down and out of the way to get past him, the press release stated.

Hammock was released from jail on Wednesday, according to the jail's website.
