ACTIONS: Fiscal Court approved ordinance 496, which establishes the same tax rates for property owners: 13.5 cents per $100 for real property, 15.3 per $100 cents on tangible and recreational personal property; approved Barren County Library tax rates: 2.9 cents per $100 real property, 2.54 cents per $100 in personal property, 2.39 cents per $100 motor vehicle, watercraft and recreational personal property; approved Barren County Extension District tax rates: 1.6 cents per $100 real property, 1.83 cents per $100 personal property, 1.8 cents per $100 in motor vehicle and recreational property; approved a bid by Scott Murphy for $25,500 to repair the Smith Cemetery Bridge; approved official settlements for July 2010, subject to audit, for the county attorney, county clerk and sheriff; approved the request of the Board of Elections to hire of 24 extra precinct workers for city precincts because of a large voter turnout expected; acknowledged receipt of the 2010-11 fiscal year budget of the ambulance service corporations; acknowledged receipt of sheriff’s quietus – 2009 property taxes.
REPORTS: County Attorney Jeff Sharp reported that state employees would be taking six days of furlough in the next year. His office, along with many offices including the county clerk, public value administrator and the public defenders office will be taking required days off without pay. Five people will be out in Jeff Sharp’s office. County Clerk Joanne London reported that offices would be open, but during the furlough days there will be no computers to make car transactions. Hunting/fishing licenses and voter registration will still be available. London also reported that about 200 of the 480 delinquent tax bills had been sold; Jailer Matt Mutter reported a total of 137 inmates at the Barren County Corrections Center, 81 that are Barren County inmates, 42 state, two from Monroe, 11 from Metcalfe and one from Allen; Road Department head Johnny Kinslow reported that road crews had completed the second mowing cycle and will try to conserve mower hours by waiting to complete the third cycle in September.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: The county clerk and sheriff’s offices will be closed Sept. 4 and 6, and all other offices in the Barren County Justice Center will be closed on Sept. 6. for the Labor Day holiday.
