Former officer sentenced in sex abuse case

TOMPKINSVILLE — The victim in a sex abuse case spoke in front of a Monroe County court and her convicted abuser Thursday.

Witnesses were discussed in another sex abuse case and evidence in a murder case there was also brought before the county’s circuit court.

Senior Judge Steve Hurt, filling in until a replacement can be found for the late Eddie Lovelace, said he was glad to be back, but that it was “not good to be sitting here in Judge Lovelace’s seat.”

Darrell Ford faced final sentencing after a jury recommended a 10-year sentence in July for the former Tompkinsville dispatcher who had also been a Tompkinsville police officer.

Ford, 59, of Tompkinsville, stood trial in July on charges of first-degree sodomy compulsion/ incapable of consent or under the age of 18, a Class B felony; first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under the age of 12, a Class C felony; and another felony sex-related charge.

He was found not guilty of first-degree sodomy but guilty of first-degree sexual abuse and another felony sex-related charge, according to a previous Daily Times article.
