Side streets are main issue for road workers

GLASGOW — Law enforcement was out and about Monday morning with the weather conditions causing icy roads.

“We haven’t had any major accidents, just vehicles in ditches like we did the last time we had snow,” Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton said, adding the back roads were causing the most problems for drivers.

Lt. Col. Kent Keen, public information officer for the Glasgow Police Department, said he hasn’t had reports of any major incidents. He also said the main city streets like West Main and 31-E were clear, but the secondary streets were predominately wet.

Officials with the Glasgow Public Works Department said that as of 8 a.m. Monday, crews had finished the main roads and were moving onto the priority two streets. Removal was on time and running smoothly, they said.

The National Weather Service reports that a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect until 6 p.m. Monday night, with a 50 percent chance of snow showers with a high near 27 degrees. A daytime snow accumulation of less than an inch is expected.
