GLASGOW —
An arrest has been made in a Monroe County shooting that occurred around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday on Rush Lane.
Charles Hammer, 81, of Tompkinsville, was arrested and charged with the murder of Herbert “Sprocket” Proffitt.
According to a Kentucky State Police press release, Hammer was charged at the Tompkinsville Police Department and is being lodged in the Monroe County jail.
Proffitt was a former Monroe County law enforcement official having worked more than 50 years in law enforcement, serving both as Monroe County’s sheriff, Tompkinsville’s police chief and as a deputy sheriff during his career.
