One added to screening committee

GLASGOW — The screening committee for a new superintendent of Glasgow Independent Schools has one more member following last night’s school board meeting.

Chairman Jerry Ream appointed board member Dr. Amelia Kiser as the fifth person on the committee. Kiser served as a parent member on the last screening committee two years ago, which chose Kathy Goff as superintendent.

Kiser joins four others already selected for the group. Sue Furlong, director of finance in the district’s central office was voted in as the classified member by classified employees in the district. Bill Philbeck, principal of South Green Elementary, was elected to the committee by the district’s principals. Mike Harris, Glasgow High School assistant principal, and Chad Muhlenkamp, curriculum facilitator for Highland Elementary, were chosen by the teachers in the district as the certified staff members on the screening committee.

The parent member is scheduled to be chosen by the PTO presidents of South Green and Highland elementaries from submitted nominations on Tuesday night, according to Phil Eason, senior educational consultant with Leadership Strategies Group (LSG), the firm hired by the school board to facilitate the superintendent search.

If the parent chosen is not a member of a minority group, then an additional election will be conducted to select a seventh person to serve on the screening committee, which follows the guidelines established by Kentucky Revised Statutes 160.352.

The committee is responsible for screening superintendent candidates and reporting its recommendations to the school board.

There will also be a public forum Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in the library of Glasgow High School to receive public input regarding the qualities the parents of the school district deem necessary and desirable for the next superintendent.

Eason will ask participants to complete a short survey and share their thoughts on the criteria for the position, according to information released by LSG.
