3 Barren County board members complete their service to the school district

GLASGOW — Three board members for Barren County Schools served in their official capacities for the last time during a regular board of education meeting Thursday night.

Kenneth Edwards, Tammy Groce and Michelle Pedigo were recognized for their service to the school district by Superintendent Bo Matthews, fellow board members Charlotte Beals and Robbie Toms, district administrators and staff, and others in attendance during a board meeting at the central office.

Edwards served on the board for 18 years, acting as vice chairman after the death of former board member, Tim England; Groce served for 17 years; and Pedigo was a board member for about 13 months, taking the seat vacated by Tommy Ross, who moved out of the district and became ineligible to continue as a member of the board.

Edwards and Groce both served during a time that was marked by great change in the school district. As board members, they oversaw the building and/or renovation of seven elementaries, a new Trojan Academy, and renovations and additions to Barren County high and middle schools, as well as other district construction projects.

Even though Pedigo’s tenure on the board was shorter, she served in the district for several years as Barren County Middle School principal and district director of instruction.

Groce said she will miss the personal connections she has made through the years.

“The people are what is most memorable and the students – the achievement and the progress that we’ve made,” she said.
