GLASGOW — A local man was taken into custody after discharging a weapon into an area residence during a domestic dispute and threatening law enforcement officers Sunday night.
Billy Joe Good, 46, of Barren County, reportedly fired several shots from the outside of a residence on Joe Morris Road into the home. One person inside the house was able to escape without injury, according to a BCSO report.
Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton and deputies Adam Minor, Steve Clark and Greg Kinslow responded to the 911 call. After arriving at the residence approximately 9 miles south of Glasgow on Joe Morris Road between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Sunday evening, they observed Good on a side porch with a weapon.
Deputies Minor and Clark were the first to arrive on the scene and as they were exiting their vehicle the deputies gave Good verbal commands to put down his loaded .357 revolver, according to the report. Good refused and held his position. A short time later the suspect came off the porch and into the roadway and fell down.
Good’s brother, unidentified at press time, was able to retrieve the gun and give it to deputies.
Good was taken into custody without further incident and when deputies searched him they also found a loaded two-shot .22 caliber Derringer handgun.
Eaton said he was glad his deputies have been well-trained for such situations and were able to keep cool heads during the standoff, which resulted in a resolution without injuries.
Good was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment (police), second-degree disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
He was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center on $10,000 cash bond.
Two injured in Saturday collision
A two-vehicle collision Saturday night resulted in minor injuries to at least two people.
Deputy Adam Minor with the Barren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wreck approximately 6.5 miles south of Glasgow near 6551 Scottsville Road on Saturday shortly after 8 p.m.
Joey W. Steenbergen, 56, and his passenger, Roberta Steenbergen, 48, both of Lucas, were traveling south on Scottsville Road in a 1995 Jeep Wrangler when a 1989 Chevy S10 pickup driven by Lucas K. Johnson, 18, of Hiseville, pulled out of Old Scottsville Loop #2 Road into the path of their vehicle causing the collision, according to a BCSO report.
Roberta Steenbergen was transported by Barren-Metcalfe Emergency Medical Service to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where she was treated and released. Joey Steenbergen refused treatment at the scene. Johnson was transported to the hospital by private means where he was also treated and released.
Minor was also assisted at the scene by Deputy Greg Kinslow and members of the Haywood Volunteer Fire Department.
