GLASGOW — Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton and his attorney, J. Guthrie True, filed a motion Thursday to continue a federal trial that was set for Dec. 3.
Eaton and deputies Aaron Bennett and Eric Guffey are facing trial for deprivation of rights and lying to federal investigators after a Feb. 24, 2010, arrest incident. Another deputy, Joseph Adam Minor, has already pleaded guilty to one count of lying to investigators and is awaiting sentencing.
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the prosecution filed a second superseding indictment in the case that alleged Eaton struck the arrestee, Billy Randall Stinnett, in the groin during the Feb. 24, 2010, incident, and then aided and abetted in deleting photographic evidence of the assault.
The two additional charges filed against Eaton so close to the trial date, as well as several already pending motions, necessitate a continuance of the trial, True said in his motion filed Thursday morning.
