New and returning Glasgow city council members gathered at city hall Thursday morning to be sworn in for their two-year term that officially starts on Jan 1.
The Glasgow City Council will have three brand-new members, Karalee Pelham Oldenkamp, Joe Trigg and Dick Doty; one member returning after 10 years away from city council, Sheila Oliver; and eight returning incumbents, Freddie Norris, Harold Armstrong, Jim Marion, Stacy Norman Hammer, Wendell Honeycutt, James “Happy” Neal, Marlin Witcher and Brad Groce.
Circuit Court Judge Phil Patton conducted Thursday’s swearing in ceremony in the council chambers at city hall. Armstrong was absent due to having the flu.
Mayor Rhonda Trautman, who has now been mayor for the length of one council term, said she is excited to have the new members in January.
“I think we have a good representation of the community,” Trautman said.
Most of the new council members have already attended one day of training in December, and will attend a three-day conference in January. That preparation will help them, Trautman said, and once they get started in their new positions they will learn as they go.
“They learn from each other once they get on committees,” Trautman said.
