Metcalfe Schools expected to hire new superintendent in April

GLASGOW — Metcalfe County school board members met with Kentucky School Boards Association Field Service Specialist Butch Canty on Thursday to develop a timeline for the new superintendent search.

The school board had an opening for the superintendent position as of Dec. 31 when Superintendent Patricia Hurt retired. Former Superintendent Byron Jeffries was named as the interim superintendent to give the school board more time to find the appropriate person for the job.

Though the superintendent search is just getting started, Jeffries said he felt confident in KSBA’s ability to provide qualified candidates.

“I’ve worked with KSBA in the past, and they provide top notch search services to local school boards,” he said. “They do an outstanding job.”

With the help of Canty, the school board members where able to identify a job description to advertise for the position starting Friday and a projected timeline for the search process. The school board will advertise for the position Jan. 4 through Feb. 28.

The superintendent search process also involves the usage of a screening committee comprised of faculty members, one school board member and a Metcalfe County Schools parent. The screening committee will assist the school board in the interview process.

The school board also identified ideal personal and professional traits of the new superintendent including: motivational, dedicated, a strong educational leader, budgeting experience and understanding of the needs of students.
