9:01 MORNING UPDATE: Russell Co. deputy sheriff arrested

COLUMBIA —

A Russell County Deputy Sheriff has been arrested in connection with a Russell Springs robbery.

Nick Bertram, 26, was arrested Friday by Kentucky State Police and charged with third-degree burglary, official misconduct, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bertam was lodged in the Russell County Jail, according to a state police press release.

The alleged burglary took place at 144 Lakeway Drive in Russell Springs where state police found an overpack suspected to be evidence in a Russell County Sheriff's Office investigation.

Meth lab units discovered a one-step meth lab in the overpack, which had been neutralized. Through the course of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for Bertram's residence, the press release stated.

In searching Bertram's residence, state police found items relating to the burglary, including multiple meth lab overpacks, also suspected to be Russell County Sheriff's Office evidence, a one-step meth lab and a large amount of drug paraphernalia, the press release stated.

Detective Ricky Brooks made the arrest. The state police is continuing its investigation.
