1:15 AFTERNOON UPDATE: Mississippi fugitive arrested in Barren County

BONNIEVILLE — On Oct. 26 at 3:45 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call for service in reference to a two vehicle collision with injuries on Interstate 65 near the 49 milemarker southbound in Barren County.

Through investigation it was determined that a 2008 Honda Odyssey van driven by Terry Hardin, 48, of Jackson, Miss., had been northbound on I-65 near the 49 mile post marker when the operator attempted to switch from the right lane to the left lane. While doing so, the van struck the left rear side of a 2011 Honda Accord, also northbound, causing Hardin to lose control and the van to strike a concrete barrier. The van then overturned onto its top where it came to final rest in the middle of the roadway.

Hardin, it turned out, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was operating a vehicle reported as stolen from Sandusky, Ohio. It was also determined that Hardin was a wanted fugitive from Mississippi for parole violation. He was subsequently apprehended without incident and transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where he was treated and released to the Barren County Jail. The stolen vehicle was seized at the scene by KSP.

Hardin was charged with operating on a suspended license, DUI second aggrivated circumstances, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle, receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, and fugitive from another state.

The operator of accord, Barry Hale, 58, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was not injured during the collision.

Trooper Jeremy Smith is the lead investigator and he was assisted at the scene by Trooper Daniel White and Barren County EMS.
