GLASGOW — Debris littered the roadway at the scene of an accident on the Cumberland Parkway at the Barren-Metcalfe County line Thursday morning where three were injured.
According to Deputy Mark Jandt with the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Department, the accident, which he estimated occurred at 11:30 a.m., happened when a pickup truck was hit by a tractor-trailer.
“Both vehicles were going westbound on the Louie B. Nunn [Cumberland] Parkway, with the pickup being in front, and a [tractor-trailer] rear ended the pickup truck, throwing it into the woods,” Jandt said.
The driver of the 1983 Chevy pickup truck, Darien Perry, 36, of Williamsburg, was STAT flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, according to a press release from the Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Department.
Glenda Perry, 37, a passenger in the pickup, was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, as was Joseph Roby, 29, of Reynolds Station, who was the driver of the 2007 International tractor-trailer.
Two other passengers in the pickup, Chestel Perry, 6, and Michael Perry, 4, were not injured.
Roby was cited for reckless driving, the press release stated. He had failed to change lanes when approaching the pickup, which was traveling in the right hand lane.
Traffic on the westbound lane of the Cumberland Parkway was closed for approximately 30 to 40 minutes so the STAT Care helicopter could land on the road.
The Metcalfe County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Kentucky State Police, the Barren-Metcalfe EMS, Metcalfe Constable Bunch and Edmonton-Metcalfe Fire and Rescue.
