Gas leak closes West Main

Line ruptured on Leslie Ave.

Staff reports

GLASGOW — A gas leak Thursday evening left parts of West Main Street closed to traffic and resulted in the evacuation of several businesses, officials with the Glasgow Fire Department said.

Road construction crews ruptured a gas line on Leslie Avenue with a track hole sometime around 5:30 p.m. Roads were closed and a few businesses in the area were evacuated just as a precaution until the gas main could be shut off and the air quality monitored, authorities said. Several other streets near the proximity of West Main Street were also closed to traffic.

“There was really no danger,” Assistant Fire Chief John Eudy said. Emergency crews remained on the scene until around 11 p.m.
