GLASGOW — MEETING: Glasgow City Council

DATE: March 24, 2008

ACTION: Adopted an ordinance amending the 2007-08 fiscal year budget by $5,516.51, which represents an insurance claim check, and appropriating $6,815.49 from the unappropriated general fund balance to the Fire Department Substation Maintenance and Repairs account for repairs to a generator and repeater that occurred during a lightning strike to the building; adopted an ordinance changing the city’s Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual relating to funeral and military leave, by considering nieces, nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews as immediate relatives, and entitling eligible employees to as many as 10 days of paid military leave per calendar year; passed the first reading of an ordinance amending the 2007-08 fiscal year budget by appropriating funds in the amount of $21,868 from the unappropriated general fund to the Renaissance Department for the purpose of funding payroll and expenses for the new full-time director; passed the first reading of an ordinance dissolving the Recreation and Playground Board; passed the first reading of an ordinance amending the 2007-08 fiscal year budget by appropriating $60,000 from the unappropriated general fund to be transferred to the Grants and Subsidies account to fund the Glasgow Airport Board’s payment of the commissioner’s award in a pending condemnation action in the Barren Circuit Court, Division I, styled “Glasgow Airport Board, Plaintiff, vs. Lawton Eaton, et al, Defendants,” with the understanding that the city will be reimbursed from funds from the Federal Aviation Administration; approved a resolution authorizing Cayce Harlow, director of the Office of Grant Oversight, to make an application for an assistance to firefighter grant administered by FEMA; approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Darrell Pickett to file an application with the Department of Transportation for a grant on behalf of the Glasgow Transit System; approved a resolution committing the local share of funds necessary to secure a section 5311 grant application, with the intent to use the funding to continue to the operation of the city’s transit service for a minimum of five years.

PRESENTATIONS: Dr. John Asriel addressed the council members and asked them to consider a smoking ban in Glasgow; Janet Sadler, an area restaurant owner, addressed the council and asked them to leave the issue of a smoking ban up to individual business owners.
