Edmonson sheriff leaves post
Former Edmonson County Sheriff B.J. Honeycutt left his position Thursday on disability retirement. The retirement is effective starting Friday.
Mike Vincent of Brownsville is taking over as sheriff for the county.
In November, Edmonson County will hold a special election to choose a new sheriff.
Vincent said he will seek the nomination to run in the election.
Vincent was chosen Thursday by Fiscal Court members and the judge-executive of Edmonson County.
“They had interviews and I was chosen after those,” he said. “I’ve had 25 years of state police experience, eight with the city police and sheriff’s office.”
Honeycutt was indicted by a Madison County grand jury in December 2007 on 11 counts of misrepresentation of having conducted training courses and four counts of providing incomplete firearms training. Kentucky State Police conducted the investigation.
County Judge-Executive N.E. Reed said Honeycutt’s retirement has nothing to do with his legal problems.
Honeycutt was elected sheriff of Edmonson County in 1998 and currently resides in Park City
