Glasgow anticipating rebound on ACT scores

GLASGOW — Glasgow Independent Schools experienced a slight decrease in ACT scores – two tenths of a point – but the district still remains above the average composite scores for Kentucky.

Sharon Ritter, the district’s instructional supervisor, said the dip is “minute.”

“If it were a point, that might concern me,” Ritter said. “But two-tenths of a dip could be any type of a variable. The state composite had two-tenths of an increase. That’s just a variable that comes with testing.”

Glasgow High School principal Kelly Bell said she expects the scores to come back up with this year’s test.

“We’re doing ACT prep two days a week now for our sophomores, juniors and seniors,” Bell said. “Frankly, that’s most important to them. CATS testing is important for the school, but the ACT determines scholarships and things for the students.”

Last spring was the first time juniors were required to take the ACT and Bell thinks they have done well.

“We don’t have those scores yet, but we’ve done some preliminary figuring and we feel pretty confident that they’ll be OK,” she said.
