Cave City man charged in pharmacy robbery

HORSE CAVE — Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Branstetter Pharmacy in Horse Cave.

Joshua J. Morton, 27, of 502 Grinstead Mill Road, Cave City, was arrested later in the morning and charged with robbery in the first degree. He was lodged in the Hart County Jail. No bond has been set and, according to police, other charges against him are pending.

Horse Cave Police Chief Alan Shirley said police received a call around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday that a robbery had occurred at the pharmacy and the robber had brandished a knife along with a note demanding controlled prescription drugs, such as Oxycontin and other drugs.

After receiving the drugs, the robber fled on foot. Other witnesses observed the man getting into a red Camaro and leaving the scene, traveling southbound on U.S. 31W, Shirley said.

A vehicle description, along with a license plate number was given to law enforcement agencies, he said. A short time later the car was discovered parked at a residence on Grinstead Mill Road in Cave City.

Morton and another man at the home were transported back to Horse Cave and interviewed by officials with the Horse Cave Police Department.

No charges were filed against the second person, however, Shirley said he is still being questioned in the case.

Assisting Shirley in the investigation were police officers with the Hart County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, Cave City Police and Horse Cave Deputy Chief Joe Middleton.
