EDMONTON — ACTION: Council members approved minutes of their Sept. 8 meeting; approved on second reading an ordinance setting the 2008 property tax rate at 7.6 cents per $100 assessed value; set Halloween trick-or-treating hours from 4 - 7 p.m.; agreed to incorporate a new “Red Flag” identity theft prevention program; voted 4-1 to prohibit groups from holding fundraising road blocks. (Councilwoman Teresa Welsh voted against the measure and Councilman Wayne Wilson was absent from the meeting.); approved on second reading an ordinance amending the city’s 2007-08 budget by $12,500, which was a donation from Sumitomo Wintec and will be used for economic development; and adopted a resolution regarding the transfer from nonhazardous duty retirement to hazardous duty retirement benefits for newly hired police officers.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: A public hearing regarding the city’s comprehensive plan is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Metcalfe County Cooperative Extension office. The first leaf pickup will be made by the city on the morning of Halloween and then regularly on Mondays in November.
