Lady Scotties earn state title
GLASGOW — Glasgow survived delays due to rain, fog and darkness.
And the Lady Scotties came out on top.
Glasgow defeated West Jessamine by five strokes to win the 2008 girls golf state championship Thursday morning at Bowling Green Country Club. The Lady Scotties shot a two-round total of 664 to win the school’s fifth girls golf state title.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of a group of girls than what I’ve got right now,” Glasgow coach Mike Harris said. “To go through what they’ve gone through the last three days – all the distractions, all the roadblocks. That tells you what kind of character that this team has. I love each one of them. It’s hard to describe.”
Kristen Wilkinson led Glasgow with a two-round total of 162. Blair Dennison shot a 163, Laura Beth Harris added a 169, Kylie Foushee shot a 170 and Shannon Bishop finished with a 194.
The tournament began Tuesday but was delayed due to rain. The first round was completed Wednesday. The second round also started that day but was halted due to darkness. The final holes of the second round were finished on Thursday.
Thursday was the final competitive high school round for Wilkinson and Laura Beth Harris. The state championship also wrapped up Mike Harris’ 22-year reign as the GHS girls golf coach. He led Glasgow to five team state titles, three individual state crowns and 14 regional championships during his tenure.
