Central Region ICC offers competition

GLASGOW — Had one of those “Eureka” moments lately? Is there an light bulb floating over your head right now?

Area inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs may get the chance to cash in on some of those ideas and dreams soon.

The Central Region Innovation and Commercialization Center (ICC) at Western Kentucky University’s Center for Research and Development in Bowling Green is launching the “Bucks for Bright Ideas 2008” program for people who are trying to get help with their bright ideas.

Jeff Hook, assistant director of Central Region ICC, said the publicly funded program helps people with innovative ideas work toward commercialization. Participants get to work with business development experts to turn their ideas into business realities.

“Bucks for Bright Ideas is a program designed to get the word out that there is help available for those (who) want to move forward with their great ideas,” said Hook. “We will work with all applicants at no charge and all information will be kept strictly confidential.”

Regional prizes of $1,000 and $2,000 will be awarded to the winners of the Bucks for Bright Ideas contest.

In addition to the top two monetary prizes, there will be other awards and prizes for specific categories. All applicants can also receive one-on-one advice from the ICC and other experts. They can also learn about grants and other funding sources.

Hook will conduct several Bucks for Bright Ideas workshops in the area as well.
