2 incumbents return to school board

Harris replaces South

GLASGOW — Two incumbents will be returning for additional terms on the Metcalfe County Board of Education.

There were three members of the school board who were up for re-election this year: Matt South, LaKettia O’Leary and Karen Tudor.

O’Leary and Tudor will be returning to serve additional four-year terms. O’Leary received 468 votes, while Tudor received 479 votes.

South, who had served as chairman of the school board, received 311 votes.

New to the school board is Greg Harris, who received 457 votes.

Two school board members not up for re-election were Julie Parsons and Steve Thompson.

Five members of the Edmonton City Council will be returning to serve additional two -year terms. They are: Teresa Welsh, 372; Curt Estes, 340; Wayne Wilson, 333; Billy Jeffries, 331; and Coy Wilson, 279.

Jack Rocher received 237 votes and will be joining the council in January.

Rep. James Comer ran unopposed and received 2,711 votes.

Daniel J. Ventures also ran unopposed for the Kentucky Supreme Court Justice’s Third District position and received 1,958 votes.

Elected to the Metcalfe County Soil and Water Conservation District were Tammy Hodges with 2,090 votes and Billy Karl with 1,084 votes.

In the presidential race, Sen. John McCain received 2,734 votes over Sen. Barack Obama’s 1,350 votes. Vote totals for others who were on the ballot for president are: Ralph Nader, 71; Chuck Baldwin, 25; and Bob Barr, 19.

In the U.S. senatorial race Sen. Mitch McConnell received 2,245 votes over Bruce Lunsford’s 1,766 votes.

In the congressional representative race, Congressman Ed Whitfield, incumbent, received 2,340 votes over Heather Ryan’s 1,420 votes.
